Maria’s areas of specialty include trauma, anxiety, PTSD, EMDR, and stress management.
Maria B. Wiggins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who received her Master of Social Work from New York University and has over 16 years of experience in the mental health field. Her career began in the Bronx, NY, where she worked with women in high-risk situations throughout their pregnancies. She later spent seven years working for the Department of the Army, providing treatment to individuals experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Maria specializes in working with adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and stress. She takes a warm, individualized, and trauma-informed approach to therapy, recognizing that each person's experiences, needs, and goals are unique. She is particularly passionate about helping clients who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them and supporting them in creating meaningful, lasting change.
Maria is a Certified EMDR Therapist and has dedicated years to developing her expertise in EMDR and trauma treatment. She has pursued advanced training with respected leaders in the field and integrates EMDR with other evidence-based and experiential approaches, including IFS-informed work and Sandtray. She also incorporates auricular acupuncture, when requested, to support the mind-body connection. In addition to traditional weekly therapy, Maria offers EMDR intensives for clients who may benefit from a more focused and concentrated therapeutic experience.
Maria believes that healing involves more than simply understanding what has happened in the past. Her work helps clients develop a greater sense of safety, reconnect with themselves, and build the tools needed to navigate life with greater confidence and intention.
Maria is also passionate about supporting fellow mental health professionals. She is a Board Approved Supervisor and an EMDR Consultant-in-Training (CIT), providing clinical supervision and consultation to other clinicians. She is committed to helping develop thoughtful, ethical, and well-supported therapists through supervision, consultation, and continuing education.
Outside of her clinical work, Maria enjoys spending time with her family & dogs, reading, traveling, trying new food, and hiking.
